1    UNIT – 2    WAVE OPTICS   Unit-02/Lecture-01    FRESNEL BIPRISM:-  Fresnel’s biprism is made by joining two thin prisms at their base to create a single  triangular shape. Light from single slit S forms spherical waves incident on the biprism.  Light passing through the lower section is refracted up, while light going into the top  section is refracted down, forming a region where the beams interfere. This creates two  virtual sources  S 1   and S 2 , with an apparent separation a. A biprism is essentially two  prisms, each of very small refractive angle α placed base to base. In reality the biprism is  constructed from a single plate of glass by suitable grinding and polishing it; the obtuse  angle of the prism is only slightly less than 180° and the other angles is of the order of 30’  are equal.                  … Read more
