The GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) exam is scheduled to be conducted online from February 4 to 5, 2017 and February 11 to 12, 2017 (Saturdays and Sundays only). The examination will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee for granting admissions to post-graduate programmes (e.g., M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D.) in Indian institutes of higher education with financial assistance provided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and other government agencies.
During the last few years, GATE score is also being used as one of the criteria for recruitment in government organizations such as Cabinet Secretariat, and National/State Public Sector Undertakings in India.
Key Highlights of the New Features Introduced in GATE 2017 Exam :
- A new paper has been added in engineering sciences paper (XE). it will be will be under Section H and this new paper is Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences
- The applicants from Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia & United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be applicable to apply for GATE 2017
- Gorakhpur has added as new centre
Certain new changes including a new section in the paper have been introduced this year :
New section in XE: The XE (engineering sciences) paper now has a new section on atmospheric and oceanic sciences (section H). With this, the number of sections in the XE paper has increased to eight (A-H) Examination dates/sessions: The exam will be conducted on February 4,5, 11 and 12 (tentative) in two sessions.
Forenoon session: 9 am to 12 noon
Afternoon session: 2 pm to 5 pm
Any change in timings or sessions/dates shall be displayed on GATE website, www.gate.iitr.ernet.in
GATE international: GATE examinations shall be conducted in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka and United Arab Emirates. The international candidates should have completed a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or Master’s degree in science in relevant subject. The final year students can also apply.
Application process: There will be no restriction on second choice of the examination city if it is in the same zone, which would be the first choice city. It can be anywhere in India .
Thumb impression : Thumb impression of candidates needs to be uploaded during the application procedure
The candidates, who have completed the qualifying degree, need to upload scanned image of degree completion certificate or final year/semester mark sheet.
Degree certificates/ Mark Sheets : However, candidates studying in the final year of their qualifying degree need to upload scanned image of pre-final year (or fifth/sixth semester) mark sheet, or provisional certificate letter from his/her institute as a proof of eligibility criterion. Similarly, this applies to candidates of AMIE, AMICE and other similar programmes.
The validity of GATE 2017 score shall be for three years.
