UGC NET Exam Pattern 2023: UGC NET Exam Pattern, conducted by NTA, consists of two papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2 which are conducted successively. Although the total time given for the papers is 3 hours, candidates are free to finish the paper according to their own timelines.

Basic Introduction

You should know that UGC NET Exam is a fully Computer Based Test. The number of questions asked in Paper 1 is 50 while the number of questions asked in Paper 2 is 100. All the questions are based on multiple-choice answers. For every correct answer, you will score 2 marks and there is no negative marking for an incorrect answer.

UGC NET: Mode of Exam

  • UGC NET will be conducted in Online mode.
  • Each candidate will be allocated a desktop with pre-installed software specially created for the examination.
  • Make sure to check that the system and the mouse is working properly before the exam commences. 

Nature of Questions in the UGC NET Exam

  • The questions in both papers will be objective in nature.
  • This means all the questions in UGC NET 2023 will be of Multiple Choice type (MCQs).
  • The question will have 4 options, candidates must select the most appropriate answer.

  • UGC NET 2023 will have a total of 150 multiple-choice questions.

Exclusive UGC NET Exam Pattern for Paper 2

UGC NET Paper 2 Exam Pattern will be exclusively on the subject-wise paper as chosen by the candidate.

Although paper 2 is based on individual subjects, the nature of the paper will be objective or multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

There are 101 subjects included in paper 2 for NTA UGC NET. Candidates will have to select one subject for the exam as their preferred choice, mostly the subject in their post-graduation.

Important Points about UGC NET Paper 2 Exam Pattern

  • For each correct response, the candidate will get 2 marks.
  •  There is no negative marking for an incorrect response.
  • No marks will be given for questions Unanswered/ Marked for Review.
  • If a question is found to be incorrect/ambiguous during the key challenge, only those candidates who have attempted the question and chosen one of the correct answers would be given the credit. Only for dropped question(s), if any, marks will be given to all the candidates.

You should know that a uniform marking in the exam is followed i.e. for both Paper 1 and 2, each correct answer will fetch you 2 marks.

  • As per the revised exam pattern of the UGC NET exam, there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
