RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 7 Maths Chapter 3 Ex 3.4 – Overview

Introduction To Decimals

A DOT separates the whole number and the fractional part present in the decimal numbers and is known as the DOT OF SEPARATION as a decimal point. Eg: In 34.56, 34 is the whole number part and 56 is the decimal part.

Division Of Decimals

It is same as the  “Division of Whole Numbers” except the fact that you need to take care of the decimal point number before you start the division process.

Steps To Divide The Decimals

  1. Change the decimal point present in the Dividend and the Divisor.
  2. Change the divisor into a whole number by changing the position of the decimal point to the right side. Also, change the position of the decimal point present in the dividend to the same number of places on the right.
  3. Plot the decimal point in the quotient (the final solution) above directly, here the decimal point will be present in the dividend.
  4. Proceed with the normal division process. Make sure to take care of the fact that the quotient is lined up carefully and all the points in the quotient are at the right place.
  5. Each digit needs to be lined up in the quotient part over the dividend’s last digit present in that process.
  6. Decimal division doesn’t necessarily produce the even results at the end unlike the whole numbers (always gives the even results).
