GATE Exam 2022: GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is an online national level examination for Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Technology (MTech), and direct PhD admissions to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other institutes/universities all across India.

GATE Exam 2022 Notification

GATE Exam 2022 is planned to be conducted on February 5, 6, 12 and 13, 2022. IIT Kharagpur has also released the GATE 2022 timetable for all 29 papers. CE and ME papers will be held in two sessions. The last date to fill the GATE 2022 Application Form was October 7. IIT Kharagpur will publish GATE 2022 Admit Card on January 3, 2022. You will be able to download your admit card from the official website at iitkgp.ac.in.

Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (combined) and Geomatics Engineering are two new disciplines that have been added this year according to GATE 2022 Notification. As a result, the GATE exam will be held for 29 disciplines or papers commencing in 2022.

What’s new in GATE Exam 2022?

The information brochure for GATE Exam 2022 has been released. The handout contains details about the exam’s recently introduced changes. The following are the new concepts for GATE 2022 that candidates should be aware of:

  • New Papers: Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (combined) and Geomatics Engineering are two new disciplines. For GATE 2022, the total number of subjects has been increased to 29.
  • More Centres: The number of exam centres is on the increase according to latest GATE Notification. The exam will be held in 221 centres across India. However, this is a tentative figure; if it changes, it will be updated here.
  • Relaxed Eligibility Criteria to be continued: The eligibility criteria for GATE 2022 will be the same as last year’s, which were modified from a minimum of 10+2+4 (prior) to a minimum of 10+2+3 (this year) (ongoing). It made it possible for students in their third year of undergraduate studies to take the entrance exam. From the date of the result declaration, the GATE score is valid for the next three years.
  • Appear for more than one paper: Last year, students applying for GATE were offered the option of choosing two subject papers from a list of options. Earlier, candidates could only apply to take one topic. This year’s sam will also be continued.
  • All GATE 2022 test papers will be objective in nature. The following is an example of a question pattern:
    • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ),
    • Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) and/or
    • Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions

  • Any Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/Technology and those who are in the final year.

GATE 2022 Application Form

IIT Kharagpur will release the GATE 2022 Application Form on September 2, 2021. Eligible applicants can fill up the GATE 2022 Application Form using the GOAPS portal by visiting the official website. Students can register for GATE 2022 by following the steps below:

  • Registration – You can register through GOAPs, i.e. https://gate.iitd.ac.in. Fill all details like name, email id, and mobile number for registration and generate enrolment id.
  • You have to change the password for the future login. 
  • Filling of GATE Application Form – After registration, a completed application form will appear. Fill the application form correctly and choose the preferred exam centres.
  • Uploading Images – Now upload photograph, signature and category certificate (if applicable). 
  • Fee Payment – Pay application fees online through net banking/debit card/credit card. 
  • Application Form Submission – Now submit your application form. 
  • Download and printout the application form for future use.

  1. There are 24 Papers in GATE Exam. You can appear only in any ONE PAPER.
  2. GATE Exam is entirely online.
  3. The application process is also online. You have to fill online application from their site and upload required.
  4. GATE 2022 would be the first of the GATE exam with seats reserved for EWS (Economical Weaker Section) aspirants.
  5. As per the Central Government Amendments, 10% of seats in addition to the existing reservation would be reserved for EWS aspirants.

GATE 2022 will not be conducted at any of the International GATE Exam Centers 2022. This is because of the currently prevailing COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, international students will be able to appear for GATE 2022 at cities in India.

Earlier, GATE exam was also conducted in various international countries such as Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE, Nepal, and Singapore. The application fee also varied for candidates opting for international GATE exam centers.   • Only a valid Passport/Government issued ID/College ID/Employee ID will be accepted as the recognized identification.
  • For foreign nationals, reservation categories (SC/ST/PWD/Women) are not applicable for concession in application fees.
  • The session timings of GATE International Test Centers as per their local time will be notified in advance.
  • GATE Registration for international applicants will remain the same as that of Indian candidates.
  • Candidates will be contacted only through their emails. For important information, they will be contacted through their mobile numbers.

How to Choose GATE Exam Centers 2022?

Candidates must select GATE Exam Centers 2022 from the given list while filling GATE 2022 Application Form. Not more than three examination centers can be selected by candidates during the application process.   • The first and second exam centers must be from the same GATE zone. 
  • The third choice of GATE Exam Center can be from any zone.
  • After filling in all the details, candidates have the option to select the GATE exam center.

  • Candidates can select any one of the centers, keeping in mind their nearest cities as per their convenience.

  • Candidates who register successfully will be able to download their GATE 2022 admit card which includes details on the allotted exam center along with the date and time of the exam. 

Note that due to operational constraints, the GATE committee reserves the right to add a new city or remove an existing one. It can allot a city that may not be included in the choices of the candidates. Whichever center is allotted to the candidate, will be mentioned in the GATE Admit card along with the center details. 

How to Change GATE Exam Center 2022?

In the GATE 2022 Application Form, candidates can change their exam city by sending a request to the exam conducting authorities. Only through the official website of GOAPS, the request will be sent. Registered candidates who want to change the name of the exam city, must pay an amount as the additional fee to complete the entire process.

All the candidates are required to clearly state the reason to the authority why they want to change the exam center.

  • Only through the online mode, the additional fee payment will be accepted.
  • All the candidates need to pay the fee for an amount of INR 400 against each change in GATE 2022 application form.
