IIT Bombay has relaxed the eligibility criteria for the GATE exam 2022 due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Candidates who are pursuing their pre-final year are also eligible to appear for the GATE 2022 examination.

GATE Mechanical Engineering Exam: Eligibility for International Students
- Must have completed or are in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree (duration: at least four years) in Engineering/Technology, or
- Must have completed or are in the final year of their Post Graduate (Master’s) degree (duration: at least two years) in any relevant science subject.

Registration
Candidates were expected to register for GATE 2022 before going through the application process. For the registration process, candidates have to enter few details like name, valid email id, country of residence, and their mobile number.
The candidates are also expected to make a profile generating a user id and password for further login. An enrollment number is produced once the candidates have successfully completed this process.
Filling the form
The GATE 2022 application form had sections like – personal, academic, and contact details. Candidates are expected to enter the details to each of these fields and choose the GATE paper they are willing to appear for along with three exam centers for which the candidate is comfortable.
Uploading Photographs
Scanned images of photograph, signature, and category certificate are to be uploaded in the candidate profile in an image format.
Application fee payment
The application fees vary on the gender and category certificates of the respective candidates. The application fee for male candidates is Rs 1500 and Rs 750 for female candidates. The application fee is can only be paid via online transactions using debit or credit cards.
GATE Mechanical Engineering Exam Pattern 2022
The GATE Mechanical Engineering Exam pattern has been revised with the change in the distribution of marks. The examination will last for 3 hours wherein the candidates are expected to attend 65 questions which in total carries 100 marks.
The number of questions in Engineering mathematics has been increased by 3 and 3 reduced from the subject questions.
