IIT JEE Eligibility Criteria – State of eligibility
The state of eligibility must be mentioned when a candidate is filling the IIT JEE Main Application form.

Important Points
- It is the code of the State from where a candidate has cleared the 10+2 examination.
- The State code doesn’t depend upon the candidates’ native place or their residence.
- If a candidate has appeared and cleared in the 10+2 examination from a state but appeared for the improvement exam from any other state, then the code from where the student originally passed the qualifying exam will be considered for eligibility.
- Candidates who have cleared or completed the 10+2 examination or equivalent from NIOS have to select the state of eligibility according to the state in which the study center is located.
- The Indian Nationals who have cleared the 10+2 examination/equivalent from Nepal or Bhutan will mention the State code of the permanent address in India as given in the passport of the candidate.
- The State code of eligibility of OCI/PIO passing the Class 12th standard exam in India will be at par with Indian nationals, however, OCI/PIO passing the 12th standard exam from an institution abroad will be eligible for other state quota seats or All India quota seats (but not for Home State quota seats) in all NITs, IIEST, and Other-CFTIs.
IIT JEE Eligibility Criteria – For IITs, NITs, GFTIs
- For IITs, NITs, and GFTIs, the candidates just need to clear the 10+2 examination, irrespective of their percentage.
- For JEE Main 2023 B.Arch/B. Planning, the candidates need to clear the 10+2 examination/equivalent exam from a recognized board or a 10+2 diploma with Mathematics as a compulsory subject.

- Age limit, no bar.

- The candidates should have taken at least 5 subjects for the 10+2 examination/qualifying exam, where Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are compulsory subjects.
