Introduction:  

  • Probability is the science of how likely events are to happen.  
  • The probability that an event will occur is a number between 0 and 1.  
  • It can be expressed as a fraction, percentage.

Conditional Probability:  

  • Conditional probability is the probability of one event occurring with some relationship to one or more other events.

  • The formula is based on the expression P(B) = P(B|A) P(A) + P(B|A) P(A) which simply states that the probability of event B is the sum of the conditional probabilities of event B Given that event A has or has not occurred.  
  • The three basic rules associated with Probability: the addition, multiplication, and complement rules.  
  • This Exercise is based on three probability properties.  

Conditional Probability Properties:

Property 1: Let E and F be events of a sample space S of an experiment, then we have P(S|F) = P(F|F) = 1. 

Property 2: f A and B are any two events of a sample space S and F is an event of S such that P(F) ≠ 0, then P((A ∪ B)|F) = P(A|F) + P(B|F) – P((A ∩ B)|F).
