RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 7 Maths Chapter 4 Ex 4.1 – Overview
Brief Introduction
Suppose the Rational Number = P / Q ( P & Q are considered as the integers)
Where,
P is a Numerator and Q is a Denominator.
The rational number where the Numberstor and the Denominator remain the same even after simplifying them, in their lowest forms is called an Equivalent Rational Number.
Simplifying the Rational Numbers in their lowest forms means that the Numerator and the Denominator apart from 1, will not contain any other common factor.
5/10 = 6/12 = 7/14 = 1/2
P/Q = KP/KQ where K = 1,2,3 etc…
- Ways To Find Equivalent Rational Numbers
There are two ways to find Equivalent Rational Numbers, mentioned below:
- Finding Equivalent Rational Numbers – Using the Multiplication Method
- Finding Equivalent Rational Numbers – Using the Division Method.
- Multiplication Method
- From the given rational numbers, multiply the Numerator and the Denominator with exactly the same integer, which must be a ‘NON-ZERO’, to yield its equivalent rational number as a result.
- If P/Q is a rational number and you take A as the common divisor of P, Q then (P * A)/ (Q * A) will give the rational number equivalent to P/Q.
- Division Method
- Divide the Numerator and the Denominator with exactly the same integer, which must be a ‘NON-ZERO’, to yield its equivalent rational number as a result.
- Whatever divisor we choose, it must be able to divide both the rational numbers i.e., there in the Numebrator as well as the Denominator.
- Also, it should not leave any remainder else it will not result in the Equivalent Rational Numbers after the division process is completed.
- If P/Q is a rational number and let us take A as the common divisor of P, Q then (P÷A)/ (Q÷A) will give the rational number equivalent to P/Q.
