RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 7 Maths Chapter 4 Ex 4.3 – Overview

Addition Of Rational Numbers

Any rational number can be expressive in the form of a fraction having the values in the numerator and denominator in the integer form (here, note that the denominator will never be equivalent to zero).

The addition between the two rational numbers is similar to the addition between two fractions. By definition, the addition of rational numbers is performing the mathematical operation of Addition between the two or more rational numbers.

This ‘+’ symbol states that the Addition Operation needs to happen between two or more given sets of numbers.

  • Addition Of Rational Numbers With Same Denominators
  1. Let’s take 2 rational numbers, with same denominators, 3/9 and 4/9.
  2. Keep the denominator value as common and then perform the addition of the numerators of the given rational number.
  3. The addition operation of the two given rational numbers with the same denominators can be represented by:

    (3+4) / 9 = 7/ 9

  • Addition Of Rational Numbers With Different Denominators
  1. Let’s take 2 rational numbers, with different denominators, 2/5 and 7/3. So the addition of two rational numbers directly is not possible.
  2. First, convert the rational numbers having the different denominators into the denominator having the same value by taking the L.C.M of the denominator values.
  • Steps To Add Rational Numbers
  1. Find the LCM of the given denominator value in the rational numbers.
  2. Find the fraction value which must be equal for the given rational numbers respectively to make sure that the denominator value of the two rational numbers is the same.
  3. Now, add the two rational numbers.
