RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 7 Maths Chapter 6 Ex 6.1 – Overview

Introduction

An an expression that consists of variables, constants, and also some of the algebraic operations like Addition, Multiplication, Subtraction, and Division. These algebraic expressions are also called “Algebraic Equations”.

Eg:

  • 2x + 9y – 1
  • 3x – 11
  • 4x + 8y – 7
  • x – 56
  • 3x² − 4xy + 9, and much more.

Variable, Coefficient and Constants

While you are dealing with algebraic expressions, you will deal with variables, letters, symbolic forms, or whosoever’s value is unknown. We have to find the value of that unknown number.

Eg: take the algebraic expression as 4y – 5.
In the above algebraic expression, we can say that the following things are applicable:
  • The symbol ‘y’ here, in the above algebraic expression, represents the variable having an unknown value or a hidden value. Throughout the solving of this algebraic expression, we will be focused on finding the value of this hidden value.
  • We can call 4 as the coefficient of y in the above algebraic expression because it represents a constant value that is predefined and can not be changed throughout the operation. It will be changed only when the value of y is known to us, then first of all by multiplying 4 with y, we can finally get its new value. It is used to support the variables.
  • Here, 5 is known as the constant value which cannot be changed throughout by any means.
  • Hence, we can call the entire algebraic expression give in the example above to be in the “Binomial Form” because it has two unlikely terms.
