RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 8 Maths Chapter 19 Three Dimensional Figures – Overview
RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 8 Maths Chapter 19, you will learn all about the Three Dimensional Figures and questions related to it,
- Dimension
Dimension can be defined as measuring a region’s distance or size or an object in a specific direction. It is the measurement of the length, breadth, and height of an object. The dimensions are divided into 3 parts : One dimension, two dimensions, three dimensions.
- One-Dimensional (1D)
A 1D figure is is formed when a line segment is constructed on a surface. It only possesses length as a measurement property, for example, a line.
- Two-Dimensional (2D)
In 2D figures, there are two dimensions, i.e., length and width, and do not possess thickness or depth, like circle, square, rectangle, etc.
- Three-Dimensional (3D)
In 3D figures, there is a definite shape or figure that comprises of three measurable quantities – length, breadth, and height. The main contrasting feature of 3D shapes with one and 2D figures is that 3D shapes possess thickness or depth.
There is a variety for 3D figures like prism, pyramids, and figures with curved surfaces.
- Prism: It is a a three-dimensional object, a pair of parallel, congruent bases. After analysing the shape of the prism bases, it has various examples of prism – rectangular prism, triangular prism.
- Pyramid: It has a single base, any polygon. After analysing the prism base’s shape, a pyramid has named an example of a prism – square pyramid, triangular pyramid.
- 3D figures with curved surface like cone, cylinder, and spheres.
