- The written exam will consist of four different subjects. (General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Knowledge & General Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, and English/Hindi)
- There will be 100 questions in the exam for a total of 100 marks.
- Each question will carry a +1 mark.
- There will be a negative marking of ¼ for every wrong answer.
- The exam will be conducted in both Hindi and English languages.
- The candidates who clear this stage will be selected for the final stage which will be the Medical Test and Document Verification.
Physical Efficiency Test:

- Candidates are tested for performance in a race in the PET.
- There are different performance criteria for male and female candidates and candidates from the country’s Ladakh region.
- Pregnant women are disqualified from taking the PET.

For the Race test, the candidates of the Ladakh Region need to follow the below criteria –
- Male: Race 1 Mile in 6 ½ minutes
- Female: 800 meters in 4 minutes
- Pregnant women are disqualified from taking this test.
- Ex-Servicemen candidates shortlisted in the CBE need to appear in PET/PST stage for recording measurements of the chest, height, and weight only. They are exempted from taking the PET. However, they need to qualify for the Detailed Medical Examination (DME).
Physical Standard Test:
-
- Certain physical standards are tested in the candidates after the qualification in PET.
- Candidates not qualifying for the PST, other than the Ex-Servicemen who are exempted, is not allowed to appear for DME.
- Different standards have been prescribed for male and female candidates, tabulated below.
