UPSC CMS Exam Pattern: Part 1 (CBT)
The online examination follows a detailed pattern; it is a computer-based or online objective test. Candidates must pass the Part I examination in order to take the Part II examination. Part II is not open to candidates who did not qualify in Part I. The Paper I examination consists of two papers. The Part I exam pattern is provided below.

- The interview/personality test will be designed to supplement the computer-based examination by testing the candidate’s general knowledge and field of study in academics, as well as the officials’ ability to test the candidate’s leadership, initiative, character, alertness, ability for social cohesion, balance of judgement, and intellectual curiosity.
