Both the exams are conducted by UPSC. IES stands for Indian Engineering Services and IAS stands for Indian Administrative Forces. 

The IES is a very specialised and technical service. The IAS is more of a generalist.

IES officers tackle the technical and executive works of the Indian Government. whereas IAS works for the administrative department of the Indian Government.

Eligibility for IES Exam and IAS Exam

IES has some special engineering-related papers in the Mains exam. IAS syllabus and IES syllabus only resemble in the Prelims Exam syllabus.

SELECTION PROCESS

IES consists of two stages – A written examination and a personal interview. IAS consists of three stages – A Preliminary exam followed by the Mains exam which is followed by a Personal Interview.
